Leighton-Linslade Town Council will be participating in The Bandstand Marathon, one of the largest national closing events of the London Olympics and Paralympics.
The event is on Sunday, September 9 and was created by Superact, a not-for-profit organisation, in 2008. More than 500 events will take place on bandstands around the country during this one day.
The council’s support for the event includes a financial contribution which goes towards the organisation, marketing and ongoing mentoring for the musicians that will be performing on the day.
Local music promoter, Dan Taylor of Peppermint Store, has been appointed events programmer and is currently working on a music programme which will feature local bands and musicians.
The event takes place from 1pm to 5pm on the bandstand in Parson’s Close Recreation Ground with free admission. A council spokesman said: “The bandstand is a much-loved feature of our town centre park and has been the back drop for the council’s summer season of band concerts for the past number of years. We hope residents of all ages will turn out and support this very special event.”
A programme of music will be available shortly. For further details call 01525 631920.
