LEIGHTON Town manager Craig Wells is inviting the club’s supporters to ask him whatever they want this Friday night.
Wells is hosting a ‘meet the gaffer’ evening at Bell Close from 8pm this Friday, and insists that he will answer any questions that fans have in the build-up to the new league season.
“I want all the fans to know that I’m interested in their opinions and I’ll try and answer anything they can throw at me. Nothing is off limits when it comes to the football club and how I go about my job,” said Wells. “It’s a chance for us to have a beer and talk football.”
The Town boss has been encouraged by this side’s form in pre-season, but does admit that some things have left him “still pulling his hair out” over the last couple of weeks.
Town picked up a 2-2 away draw at AFC Dunstable last week in a friendly Wells described as “not particularly pleasant to watch” before they saw off Aylesbury United in a landlords versus tenants clash on Saturday.
Despite taking an early lead through Steve Hatch, Aylesbury were defeated 2-1 at Bell Close.
Hatch converted from Michael Kilpa’s corner kick and United had their eyes on a second friendly win over Leighton in two years.
But Town, who had a number of former Ducks players in their line-up, drew level early in the second half and then nicked a winner through one of them, Enzo Silvestri who turned home from close range midway through the second half.
Wells said he was fairly happy with his side’s performance, but also said they need to improve on a few things before the Evo-Stik League Division One Central season kicks-off a week Saturday.
He said: “We didn’t really deserve to get a draw at Dunstable with a lot of trialists in the side, but we were much better on Saturday against a good side tipped to do quite well this year.
“We just need to get the consistency right. We have conceded goals from set-piece which annoys me and we can talk a good game, but we need to actually go out there and execute it.
“But there have been positives and we have at least one more game to play before the real thing next Saturday.”
Town visit Pitstone & Ivinghoe this Thursday night, and Wells is hoping to book in another friendly game for this Saturday. They then begin their league season with a trip to AFC Hayes on August 18.
