Since the revelation that one in five Britons suffer from anxiety or depression, Leighton Buzzard’s mental health carers say help is at hand.

South Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (SEPT) provide Adult Community Mental Health Teams at Crombie House on Hockliffe Street.

And this centre is currently visited by 250 people suffering from anxiety and depression in the area.

The astonishing figures, published as part of the Measuring National Wellbeing Programme, linked the main causes of stress-related illnesses to high levels of unemployment, relationship breakdowns and poor physical health.

Dr David Middleton, consultant psychiatrist at Crombie House, said: “Work and unemployment related anxiety/depression appears to be a growing area of need.”

The Leighton Buzzard centre has community mental health teams who provide mental health care and treatment for those individuals with more complex and enduring mental health needs, this may include anxiety and depression.

The teams assess, treat, monitor and review patients and offer treatment or support, which includes psychological intervention, occupational therapy, care co-ordination, employment support and support time recovery workers.
