THE future of the Sandhills Community House in South Leighton has been secured thanks to a huge handout from the Big Lottery Fund.
Voluntary and Community Action, which set up and runs the Plover Road house is getting £190,626, along with £70,000 of developer contributions transferred from Central Bedfordshire Council.
The good news will end uncertainty about how the house, which is a popular hub for new families moving into south Leighton, will be funded over the next four years.
The community house opened in August with £115,000 funding from a charity, the Tudor Trust and Leighton-Linslade Town Council. The costs of building and fitting out the building were met by Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon, along with a grant of £80,000 passed on from Central Bedfordshire Council.
