An annual community event that has been running for the past decade will not go ahead this year due to lack of volunteers from the village.
Wing’s carnival committee has been left with just one quarter of the realistic number of volunteers that are needed to help organise and run the event.
Committee member Sue Hogg, 39, from Leighton, who has been involved with the village event for four years, said: “It is such a shame that it isn’t going ahead.
“There is just not enough people to put it all together.
“I think people just don’t have the time as there is a lot of work to do.
“That is the general consensus, not that they don’t want to do it.”
Sue and other members of the carnival’s committee are asking people to come forward if they would like to volunteer their time to ensure Wing’s event can return next year.
Sue, who is one of just four members, said: “It is too big a village to let it die.
“There are people saying it is really sad, but I think it’s a case of people not realising until it’s too late.”
The last event organised by the current carnival committee was a treasure hunt from the village hall that took place on Sunday.
A summer fete at the church on June 15 has now been written into Wing’s social calendar, but the event is not intended to replace the popular carnival.
Sue added: “Please get involved because it is a fantastic day when everyone in the village comes together.”
