The area’s newest alpaca farm is throwing open its doors to the public this Saturday.

Abbott’s View Alpacas, based in Aston Abbotts, was established a year ago by James and Jo Dell who decided to follow their eco-dream of living the good life.

In the past 12 months they have established a herd of 29 alpacas and have introduced miniature Shetland ponies, rabbits, guinea pigs and ducks to their farm. Their three daughters are learning to spin alongside their two grannies while James is training to sheer. They took a few of their herd along to the British Alpaca Society’s national show which was held at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre, Slapton, recently.

The family has also built a fully green home that harnesses the sun’s rays for power and rainwater for its water supply.

This Saturday sees their first open day and runs from 1.30pm to 5pm. There will be a sheering demonstration and visitors will be able to get hands-on with all the animals as well as enjoying delicious home made cakes.

Abbott’s View Farm is off Moat Lane and will be sign-posted from the village centre. For more information call 07989 063595 or visit www.abbottsviewalpacas.co.uk
