More than 30 members and their families from Leighton Buzzard Canoe Club joined with Leighton Linslade in Bloom last Saturday morning to clear rubbish from along the banks and towpath of the Grand Union Canal.
Chairman of LBCC Julian Brown said: “Sadly some people don’t care what they do with their rubbish and all too quickly it builds up, not only does it look awful, it can be dangerous too.
“Our members train most nights on the canal and we felt it only right we spent time to help improve the environment for everyone to enjoy.”
The Canal and Rivers Trust supplied all the equipment needed for the rubbish collection, which mounted to over 20 bags.
