Leighton councillor David Bowater has been elected vice chairman of Central Beds Council at the authority’s annual general meeting.
Councillor Caroline Maudlin (Sandy ward) is the council’s new chairman, taking over from Councillor Angela Barker having served as her vice chairman for the past year.
Speaking about his appointment Councillor Bowater, who is a ward councillor for Leighton Buzzard South and leader of the town council, said: “I’m honoured to have been elected to this role and I’m really looking forward to working alongside Caroline. Between us we represent wards at different ends of Central Bedfordshire and want to use our roles to bring people together and unite communities across our area.”
Councillor Maudline added: “I am absolutely thrilled to be representing an area that I grew up in and that’s been home to my family for several generations.
“During my year in office I look forward to meeting local residents, organisations and businesses, understanding and celebrating everything that is great about our area. I also want to use the charitable side of my role to really make a difference – it would be great to leave a small legacy from my time as chairman.”
