Furious villagers in Stanbridge fear that their views will be snubbed when it comes to naming a new site for showpeople.
The controversial decision to find new pitches for gipsies, travellers and showpeople in Central Beds has provoked outrage from residents throughout the district.
A long list of possible sites is set to be reduced to 20 at Thursday’s meeting of the council’s sustainable communities overview and scrutiny committee. Only two sites have been specifically targeted as suitable for showpeople – Stanbridge and Biggleswade.
But one man who lives close to the planned site accused the council of manipulating its figures to ensure the Green Belt field at Stanbridge is chosen for ten pitches.
“All I want is for them to play fair. We already have travellers’ sites in Tilsworth, Eaton Bray, Billington and Slapton. Enough is enough.”
