A sports club that has been making a racket over funding they need to get extra facilities look close to getting a decision soon.
Linslade Tennis Club has been desperately trying to secure cash for a clubhouse and they were last night hoping to move one step closer to achieving their goal.
Leighton-Linslade Town Council’s policy and finance meeting will consider a recommendation from the leisure and community committee, to provide £20,000 to the club, this evening.
However the decision could be deferred until a structural survey on the condition of the Mentmore Road Park Pavilion, where the club is currently based, is carried out.
Mike Phillips has been chairman of Linslade Tennis Club for six years and has been determined to secure a future.
He said: “It has been the most frustrating time because of how long it is taking to get the funding.
“We have effectively lost two years because we could have been offering everyone our new facilities back then.
“This club was basically going to die because we haven’t been able to offer everything that people want.
“It’s just not professional and doesn’t create the right atmosphere.
“The club is still doing very well, don’t get me wrong, but we want to have something we can be really proud of for the future.”
The need for additional facilities stemmed from the playgroup taking over the two changing/store rooms in the pavilion that were previously used by his club.
The £30,000 project, of which £10,000 will be paid for by the club’s reserves, will be used to build male and female changing rooms, male and female toilets, kitchen area, storage area and social/seating area that can also be used for club meetings.
