MK Arts for Health are inviting artists to enter their new Shoosmiths Art Prize to be in with a chance of winning £500 and exhibiting their work at Milton Keynes Hospital.
MK Arts for Health manages an extensive collection of nearly 400 works including loans from Paintings in Hospitals and the Arts Council of England. The competition offers artists the opportunity to bring their work to a wide and varied audience and to exhibit their work alongside the work of major artists.
A selection panel, including representatives from the Royal College of Arts and MK Gallery, will shortlist 10 artists who will each be given a six month exhibition in Milton Keynes Hospital or at Shoosmiths Lawyers’ Office. One artist will also receive £500 prize money donated by Shoosmiths and one artist will receive £300 worth of framing.
Sharon Paulger, director of MK Arts for Health said: “MK Arts for Health is a local charity which has been using art to enhance health care environments for the last eight years. Art in hospital has been shown to benefit patients both in terms of helping people to recover quicker and also in reducing pain.
“We are also committed to supporting artists and this competition will open up new exhibition opportunities for artists where their work will be seen by thousands of visitors, patients and staff at the hospital.’
The competition is open to artists at all stages of their careers who produce wall-based 2D work, whether it is painting, photography, drawing, illustration or collage .
