THE Olympics are well under way now, but did you know LBO land has an ancient link to The Games, boasting a competitor in the 1908 and 1912 events.
Albert Joseph Kempster (August 23, 1874 to January 2, 1952) was a British sport shooter who finished fifth in the running deer single shots competition as well as in the running deer double shots event in 1908.
Four years later he won the bronze medal as member of the British team in the team 30 metre military pistol event as well as in the team 50 metre military pistol competition. In the individual 50 metre pistol event he finished 24th.
The medals are currently on display at Leighton’s library.
In the August 7 edition of the LBO, Sandra Dudley looks at his life and achievements.
