Consultation on new school

Formal consultation begins today on proposals to develop a new lower school site, on Leighton’s Sandhills development, off Kestrel Way.

It follows an informal consultation by Central Bedfordshire Council which showed solid support for the plans.

Speaking about the proposals Executive Member for Children’s Services at Central Bedfordshire Council, Councillor Mark Versallion, said: “There is a real need to increase the number of lower school places in Leighton Buzzard, to meet the needs of the growing local population, and our responsibility as a council to ensure there are sufficient school places for our children.

“The initial consultation has shown that the majority of local parents are fully supportive of the proposals.

“There has been a strong interest locally in the plans and I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to give their views or who came to one of the very well attended public meetings.”

The formal consultation lasts for four weeks, ending on July 9.

Anyone wishing to comment on the proposals should do so by contacting the Director of Children’s Services at Central Bedfordshire Council.

Following the statutory consultation and consideration of the responses, the council’s Executive will make the final decision on whether the proposals will be approved at its meeting on August 21. The proposed changes would be fully implemented from September 2013.
