Bedfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Olly Martins will be at Morrisons supermarket in Leighton Buzzard on Wednesday (October 28), to issue burglary advice to residents and advise how to keep your property safe.
The commissioner will be at the supermarket from 3pm to 5pm, accompanied by colleagues from the local Neighbourhood Watch who will distribute security packs to help with burglary prevention.
The PCC said: “The new Bedfordshire Police operating model has focused more attention on Leighton Buzzard, allowing for a new enhanced community policing team to be based at the station, as well as a number of Special Constables.
“We want to reassure residents that even though the underused enquiry desk may close, Leighton Buzzard police station will remain open and there will continue to be a strong police presence in the area.”
After consulting with the public in summer 2014, burglary remains one of the top priorities for Bedfordshire Police.
Operation Albiorix was launched in October 2014, aiming to crack down on burglary hotspots as the nights began to draw in.
Working with local authorities and partners, Bedfordshire Police worked to prevent and reduce the seasonal upsurge across South Bedfordshire’s burglary hotspots.
Its primary aim was to improve intelligence and increase the detection and the disruption of offenders as well as stepping up support for victims and informing residents the best ways to protect their property.
