Linslade Freemasons are joining the fight against a debilitating brain disease.

Representatives of the three lodges and chapters at the Masonic centre in Wing Road handed over a £5,000 cheque to Parkinson’s UK.

The cash was raised through regular donations, backed up with gift aid, together with funding from their central body, the Grand Charity. The assistant heads of Linslade and Bucks Freemasons, Robert Wharton and Peter Moody, presented the money to Tony Vaughan, of Parkinson’s UK.

Mr Vaughan, 65, a retired headteacher, said: “Their generosity is all the more outstanding because the cash has been raised in the face of severe economic hardship in this part of Bucks, which has worsened in the last few weeks.”

Mr Wharton said: “Linslade Freemasons take their community responsibilities seriously, and we recognise the terrible effects which Parkinson’s can cause, not just to individuals but to whole families.
