LEIGHTON-Linslade Town Council has moved a step closer towards providing the long awaited sports facilities on Astral Park. At a meeting of the council’s leisure and community committee on Monday last week it was agreed that the pavilion should be built in the south-west corner of Astral Park to minimise disruption to local residents. The decision will need to be ratified by the full councill before getting the full go-ahead.

After the committee meeting deputy council leader, Councillor Amanda Dodwell, said: “In response to the views of local residents we decided that the pavilion should be sited as far as possible from residential dwellings. There has been some genuine concern expressed by residents and the Southern Residents Group, and we have taken on board what they have said.”

She said that the council had recognised that the park was used for a diverse range of activities and not just for football. To minimise the impact on other users the senior pitches will be located on land behind Astral Park which is owned by Central Bedfordshire Council with only junior pitches on Astral Park itself.
