The Leighton Buzzard Railway will be offering its relaxing trips into the past, right through the Easter weekend. Steam trains will be at work from Friday, April 6 to Monday 9, and again on Wednesday 11, with departures from Page’s Park station from 10.40am to 3.40pm. The return journey out into the unspoilt Bedfordshire countryside takes one hour 10 minutes.
There will be extra trains on Easter Sunday and Monday, featuring the “Iron War Horse”—War Department No 778, one of the few surviving steam engines which actually operated in the First World War battlefields in 1917 and 1918 .
The next best thing to being an engine driver is to be allowed at the controls under supervision, and this is what the Leighton Buzzard Railway’s “A Taste of Steam” sessions offer.
In a 15-minute familiarisation session, you are shown round one of the railway’s smaller steam locomotives, discovering how it works and what all the different bits do. You then get to have a drive in the safety of Page’s Park shed yard, under the watchful eye of one of our experienced crew members. The cost is £10 per person, payable on the day.
The next sessions are on Sunday, April 22. Contact marketing@lbngrs.org.uk for availability and booking.
