Perfect parking campaign to launch in Bucks

Is it ignorance, arrogance or just a way of life that causes parking problems near schools in Buckinghamshire? That is a question being addressed by Transport for Buckinghamshire this term as it launches a Perfect Parking campaign to promote safe and considerate parking around schools.

The scheme will also encourage families to park and walk, have a ‘park away day’ or take part in the ‘Parent Parking Promise’.

Peter Hardy, Buckinghamshire County Council Cabinet Member for Transport, says “Drivers need to consider their actions when parking near schools. They need to be aware that parking inconsiderately can affect the safety of the children and local residents. Supporting the campaign is one way schools can raise awareness of the problem and encourage drivers to think carefully about where and how they park.

“We are working with Thames Valley Police and the Fire and Rescue Service to help schools address the issues and improve parking in their local community. We also have a range of initiatives and resources to support our objective and promote the campaign.”

Schools are being encouraged to support the campaign, which will run week starting March 12, by organising initiatives and promoting “Perfect Parking” through assemblies, lessons and newsletters.

The winning design in its recent Junior Road Safety Officer poster competition has been made into an outdoor sign which will be sent to every school to put up on their gates and fences to promote the campaign.
