PEDAL-power was on the menu at Linslade Lower School this week when food providers were in the saddle for smoothie making.
The healthy eating cooking demonstration was hosted by school dinner chefs at Eden Food Services and in a bizarre blending idea they created a bicycle-powered blender to make the creations.
Children in Key Stage 2 were given two very exciting demonstrations of how to use fruit and vegetables in delicious recipes and told about healthy eating and food hygiene.
The children were amazed by the blender and several had a go at making it operate. The chef provided a wide range of tasty fruits and ingredients and some children tried new fruits for the very first time. The conclusion was that the smoothie was “very yummy”.
Seconds served, and the next demonstration was a colourful Chinese stir-fry. Staff and children reported a delicious smell filling the whole school as demos were under way.
All watched the chef prepare a variety of different vegetables and chicken and they were given the opportunity to smell ginger and garlic which all received the thumbs up. The resulting stir-fry was a huge hit with the children and was described as delicious and “quite nice”.
A spokesman for the school said: “The children totally enjoyed their day and learned a great deal about healthy eating and food preparation.”
