GEORGE Formby would have been proud. The ukulele has become fashionable once again and a group of Leighton musicians will this week launch themselves onto the listening public.
Uke’d are appearing at The Wheatsheaf this coming Saturday night where they will also be taking the opportunity to launch their debut CD.
Formed in the summer of 2010 Uke’d take their name from the musical instrument which all members of the band play. The eight-strong group - Bev, Bill, Bruce, Mark, Lee, Michelle, Sally and Stuart - have gone on to play at a range of events including open mics, social clubs, festivals and charity events.
The common factor to all is their enjoyment in making music. They have been described as ‘a band to watch’ and they certainly make their audiences smile.
The band of experienced musicians draw on a wide range of musical influences from Hendrix to country (with a lot in between)and delight in surprising audiences with the versatility of a ukulele. As they say ‘we like to play ukulele with a twist’.
Uke’d will be at The Wheatie, in North Street, from 6pm till 9pm. The CD has been recorded at RedDot Music by Steve Askew so it is a true Leighton Buzzard collaboration.
