An ex-Cedars student has gained the highest mark nationally in a set of surgeon examinations, landing her a prestigious award.

And after getting top marks for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, Alexandra Knight has received the prestigious Gold Medal from the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.

Alexandra, who grew up in Leighton Buzzard and whose family live in Eggington, said: “I am very glad to have found my vocation in life and remain indebted to Cedars for the part the school has played in my success.”

The high-achieving 34-year-old who left Cedars in 1997 after winning a place at University College London in order to study medicine, graduated as a doctor in 2003, but took the decision to undertake the long and challenging period of training that would enable her to become a surgeon.

Alex is returning to The Cedars on September 11 in order to be guest speaker at the school’s annual awards ceremony for Years 11, 12 and 13.
