A new bus route starting in September will make it easier for Leighton Buzzard residents to get two colleges in neighbouring towns.
The University Technical College (UTC) in Houghton Regis and Central Bedfordshire College in Dunstable, pictured, are on the new 169 route from Leighton Buzzard.
The new route is part of Central Beds Council’s Travel Choices project which aims to improve travel to employment and education in Leighton, Dunstable and Houghton Regis by offering more choice.
The route runs morning and afternoon services from both ends of the journey and passes through villages such as Hockliffe and Thorn on the way to the UTC in Houghton Regis and the college in Dunstable. Fares are subsidised through a partnership of the UTC and Central Bedfordshire Council’s Travel Choices programme
Councillor Brian Spurr, Executive Member for Sustainable Communities, said: “We’re really pleased to have been able to fund this community service. It’s important to us that the government funding we received for Travel Choices is spent on things that have a very real impact.
“This is a great example – college students from Leighton Buzzard are accessing training, new skills and ultimately employment via the link to the UTC and Central Bedfordshire College.”
The service starts on September 2. Timetables are available from www.cbtravelchoices.co.uk
