An eight-year-old boy was “heartbroken” to discover the bike he is learning to cycle with was stolen from the back garden while his family slept upstairs.
Thieves snuck into a six-foot fenced garden in Sandhills, Leighton Buzzard, last night and stole Leon Richardson’s red Sting-Ray American Chopper that he had been given for Christmas.
Leon’s mum Jo Grayson said: “He didn’t understand what had happened this morning, but when he realised he got really upset and started crying, just saying that he wanted his bike back.
“It’s just awful, it’s like I want to move house now. I know they didn’t get in but it feels horrible. I’m shaking and feel scared.
“Our children’s windows were open, but no-one heard anything.
“Leon is absolutely heartbroken because he’s only just starting to learn how to ride it. “Beds Police are coming round tomorrow to talk to Leon and reassure him because we’ve never been in this sort of position before. It is quite nerve-racking.
“We’re not stupid, we know there is not much of a chance of getting them back, but we need to try.
“We won’t press charges if they can bring the bike back. If anyone knows anything please contact the police.”
