Anyone who has wondered how mail posted in the evening in the south was delivered in Scotland at breakfast time the following morning should visit Buckinghamshire Railway Centre on Saturday and Sunday (August 10-11).

The Quainton-based venue is hosting an event covering many aspects of moving mail – from the early horse-drawn days to more modern times. Plus Postman Pat and Jess the Cat will be visiting too!

The British Postal Museum & Archive will be displaying banners telling the story of the Great Train Robbery and the subsequent Post Office Investigations Department.

The Letter Box Study Group will be displaying some interesting original and replica post boxes in the museum, where children can design and colour a post office van, a pillarbox – and even a steam engine!

The TPO & Seapost Society will display their books and a display of TPO Cover Stamps, while on the Sunday the Post Office Vehicle Club will gather to show off their restored Post Office Vehicles of all types.

Children will enjoy meeting Postman Pat and Jess the Cat, who will be making appearances at intervals on each day.

The Visitor Centre’s Cinema Coach will feature a series of talks both days and visitors can even have-a-go at sorting mail.
