A governor inspired by the recent dog attack on goats at a Leighton school has helped raise money for new fencing following the tragedy.
Neil Warby, 36, of Cooper Drive, Leighton, ran for three hours and 58 minutes on a treadmill during the Mary Bassett Lower School’s summer fete on Saturday. Neil said: “It went really well, but it was very hot on Saturday so I didn’t run as fast as I normally do.”
Neil has challenged himself to run the equivalent of a marathon per week throughout 2013 and has already reached 950 out of 1,250 miles.
“I discovered that the school was really struggling to receive funding to improve the security fencing around the school. The recent dog attack on the school goats highlighted on the front page of your newspaper a few weeks ago has really emphasised how important this fence is to ensure safety for all in the school.
“The school is unable to pay for the fencing from its own budget, as it needs to build a new classroom this year to accommodate growing numbers.
“The PTA have been working hard to raise funding for the fence, and I thought that I could support them with this.” Donate to mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/run4mbls.
