Espresso Head in Hockliffe Street, Leighton, has been showing contemporary figurative artwork for the last year and now with the opening of Crafty Buzzards opposite more walls are filling with original artwork created by local artists.
Styles and media vary which means Leighton Buzzards ‘Cork Street’ has something for all tastes. For more than 12 months now a group of these artists have been scouring the area trying to find 500sq ft of warehouse-style studio space that they can turn into an artists’ cooperative (The Leighton Buzzard Artists’ Cooperative). They are Sarah Russell, Susan Erskine-Jones and David Storey
David is a Threadneedle Prize finalist whose paintings and prints have appeared in numerous exhibitions, including shows at Cultivate, Vyner Street Gallery, The Mall Galleries and The Gallery in Cork Street.
Susan Erskine-Jones studied printmaking at South Africa’s Michaellis University. Since coming to the UK she has exhibited in a number of prestigious exhibitions and is featured in the Artists Who’s Who.
Sarah Russell trained at Bristol. Having run a successful card business with her own designs is now working in water colour and mixed media.
As well as producing their artwork in the studio the group plan to run a variety of art courses, plus have regular exhibitions of their work.
