Leighton Town are close to naming the man who will be tasked with improving the club’s on-field fortunes next season.
The battle to take over from Paul Copson is down to just two candidates and a final decision is expected to be made when interim chairman Iain McGregor returns from his holiday in the USA.
It’s thought the Evo-Stik Division One Central club received lots of interest in the position, but not all of the applicants are able to work with the shoestring budget available.
In the meantime plans to rebuild the first-team are continuing at pace, as the Bell Close outfit aims to build a squad made up mostly of local players.
Ian Kirkwood is helping to put the team together for 2013-14. He said: “Next season is going to be the rebirth of our club and we want all local players to join us and be part of the future.
“It’s going to be hard work, it’s going to require faith, but it will be an epic adventure that we want the whole town to be part of.
“So if you want to play at the highest level possible in the local area, join us at pre-season and see if you can make a difference.”
Kirkwood says several former Leighton players in the local area have shown an interest in helping out their home club, and that a team made up of players from the immediate area is the way forward for the small, friendly club.
Anyone looking to get involved can call Kirkwood on 07920 041198. The dates and times of training will be released shortly.
