Leighton Buzzard Town lifted themselves off the bottom of the Cherwell League Division One table with a surprise win over Great Brickhil.
The victory at Bell Close by 44 runs was something of a shock based on the two teams’ early season form – but it was still thoroughly deserved for Town who climb to seventh place in the table as a result.
There were several stand out performances from Town as Lee Selfe (4-30) and Antony Francis (4-35) joined forces to dismiss Great Brickhill for a total of just 159 – the majority of those runs scored by Garth Davson who reached 84.
That came in reply to the home side’s total of 203-8 as club captain Phil Whatmore top scored on 82, giving Town a richly deserved and morale boosting first win of 2013.
The challenge now will be to take that winning form into another local derby fixture at Buckingham this Saturday.
