A mature university student who has set her mind on investigating women’s experiences during menopause says she is determined to give Leighton people local support.
Angela Thorogood, 53, of Ashwell Street, is now a part-time research student doing a PhD at the University of Bedfordshire after deciding to enrol 10 years ago to gain an undergraduate degree when she became a single mum to six children.
Angela said: “Working women’s experiences of the menopause have been largely ignored and we feel that its very important that the menopause isn’t seen as a taboo.
“The main aim of the group is to offer women who are experiencing the menopause the opportunity to meet other women who are also going through the menopause. The group would provide a place where women could chat informally over a cuppa or just to share their stories and experiences. It is not a counselling group but just a friendly peer support group for women. I am extremely excited about this group taking off and hope that many women will email with enquiries and ideas.”
