A young mother and loyal supporter of the NSPCC is determined to help raise half a million pounds for the children’s charity.
Hazel Calvert, 24, of Hockliffe Road, Leighton, is set to take on the NSPCC’s MK half marathon this year, to raise vital funds for the ChildLine Schools Service.
Hazel said: “Having just had a baby, and seeing my son who is just five months grow and develop, it is with disbelief that I think there are little children and babies who are not being loved and cared for.
“I am a long-time supporter of the NSPCC and want to continue to show my support for the work they do.
“I can’t wait for the sense of achievement completing the run and giving my son a cuddle at the end of it.”
Hazel will be racing along with other athletes as she battles her way through the 13.1 mile run, which kicks off on July 7.
The NSPCC is calling all budding athletes and first time runners to take part in the 13.1 mile run, which travels through the scenic routes along the new cities redways and the Grand Union Canal.
Over the last 14 years, the event has raised over £448,000 for the NSPCC, and the charity is hoping to reach the half million pound mark in its 15th year. This year all fundraising from the half marathon will go to support the ChildLine Schools Service which launched in, November, last year.
Sally Phipps, community fundraising manager for the NSPCC, said: “We always get such wonderful support from people who travel far and wide to take part in the NSPCC’s half marathon, and we simply wouldn’t be able to continue our work helping those children who are victims of emotional and physical abuse, without the support of people such as Hazel and wish them all our luck for marathon day!
“It’s also great to be able to earmark all funds from this year’s race to the ChildLine Schools Service which has just recently launched Beds.”
