The fortnightly column from the Volunteer Centre at Bossard House, West Street, Leighton Buzzard

Have you ever thought about giving advice and support to local community organisations? Perhaps you have experience as a trustee and would like to use your knowledge to support other charities and community groups?

Or perhaps you have worked as a manager or other professional in the voluntary and community sector? Or maybe you have skills from the commercial sector and would like to use these to help benefit the voluntary sector?

As part of a new project running in Leighton Buzzard we are looking for volunteers who are interested in providing advice and support to voluntary and community organisations in and around Leighton Buzzard. So whether you have a background in fundraising, or in business planning, writing policies or even just giving advice and you can spare a few hours a month, then we would like to hear from you.

This is a great opportunity if you have professional or voluntary experience you would like to use to support others, you are looking for a voluntary opportunity that is flexible and will fit around your other commitments, you want to give something back to the community but can’t make a regular commitment and you want to gain new knowledge and learn new skills, and experience a new challenge.

The next training session will be held today (May 14). If you would like more information or to sign up for the induction session please contact Len Simkins on 01234 360607 or email len.simkins@infotrain.co.uk

>British Red Cross Week 2013. Have you ever considered volunteering for the Red Cross? There are various different volunteering opportunities available, including A&E assisted discharge volunteers, fire and emergency services support volunteers, first aiders for public events and fundraising volunteers. You could also organise your own fundraising event, why not plan a challenge, sell homemade cakes, hold a treasure hunt or a competition. All the money that you raise will go to help vulnerable people in crisis.
