Although playful Lola would be the perfect addition to many families, she was born deaf and has been without a permanent home for three years.
Currently in the care of the staff at Appledown Kennels in Eaton Bray, he bright-as-a-button four-year-old bull terrier cross has the remarkable ability to understand basic sign language.
Appledown’s Louise Jenkins said she would have taken Lola home herself long ago were it not for her four cats.
She told the Gazette: “I love her. She loves to play and cuddle. She’s got a wicked personality. She’s very clever.
“Lola is a very polite dog, and very sociable with other dogs – she’s been for walks with my Jack Russell and my boss’ Rottweiler.”
Because of her disability, Lola would prefer to be homed somewhere that already has a dog that can provide companionship and help her to settle in.
Lola was taken to Appledown by her previous owners because she had a difficult relationship with a neighbour’s cat.
Though not the biggest fan of cats, Lola would suit a family with children aged seven and over.
Louise added: “I’ve been here for years now and I’ve never known a dog to be with us for three Christmasses.”
