A taxi driver was threatened by three masked men in an armed robbery while on his way to pick up passengers in Leighton yesterday.
The attack happened at around 6.40pm in Meadow Way when the 35-year-old driver was approached by the robbers and threatened with a pen knife and a stick - which is thought to have been a cricket stump.
The victim got out of his car and the suspects helped themselves to his phone, satellite navigation system and takings.
Detectives are now appealing for anyone to come forward who may have witnessed the attack or been offered a Sony Eriksson mobile phone or Binatone sat nav.
However, there is no clear description of the offenders although all three are believed to be white males.
Detective Constable Matt Shepherd, who is investigating the robbery, said: “This was an unnecessary attack on a taxi driver providing an important public service.
“Thankfully the victim was not injured during the attack but this could have been a far more serious incident and we must apprehend the people who committed this offence before they can commit further harm.
“I would really like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery or anyone else who may have information – however small or insignificant they think it is – that could help us.
“Please don’t dismiss your information as unimportant – even tiny details which don’t seem relevant now might become useful later on in the investigation.”
