There may not be any such thing as a free lunch in these austere times but on Saturday and Sunday (May 11-12), the British Alpaca Society is inviting the public to a free day out packed with fun and entertainment at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre, Slapton.

There will be plenty of opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the UK’s finest alpacas as well as discovering why they are so popular and what’s involved in keeping them.

In addition, there will be many other activities including: Thrift Farm petting zoo, ferret racing, a companion dog show, dog agilit, llama agility, terrier racing, gundog training, plus much more.

A highlight for anyone interested in craft will be the Fibre Zone in the galleries overlooking the main arena where on Saturday there will be The Great Alpaca Scarf Race. Teams will compete to transform a bag of alpaca fleece into a luxurious, knitted scarf for an alpaca in the fastest time possible.

Saturday night is party night with a packed Gala Evening for just £55 for a champagne reception and a three-course dinner or £15 for a grandstand ticket where you can watch where you can watch equestrian vaulting, llamas, alpacas and ponies having fun against the clock, a parade of camelid.
