Central Bedfordshire Council has developed six new circular cycle routes across the whole of the area to encourage residents and visitors to get out and about and enjoy the countryside.

The new routes are Around Leighton Buzzard, Old Warden-Southill-Broom-Northill, Around Potton, Dunstable Downs -Whipsnade-Studham-Totternhoe, Barton-Shillington-Streatley, plusWrest Park.

They use a combination of on-and off-road cycling and are aimed at competent cyclists and families. The routes will be suitable for both mountain and ‘hybrid’ style bicycles. All routes use a mix of terrain-friendly bridleways, green lanes and quiet country lanes with a few very short stretches or crossings of busier roads.

Councillor Budge Wells said: “Cycling really has enjoyed a surge in popularity since the Olympics. And since we live in such beautiful countryside, we hope these new cycle routes will help people to get out and about and enjoy being active.

Guides and Maps are available at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/cycling.
