Where do we draw the line about getting so cross?

Write Away. Leighton Buzzard Writers’ LBO Column. This week by Phil Wilkinson

According to Central Bedfordshire Council the dangerous delay in reinstating the road markings denoting pedestrian crossings near Bassett Road and Bridge Street was due to sub-zero temperatures.

They seem be to claiming unsuitable conditions existed all through those six weeks, but the prevailing weather conditions didn’t stop the painting of the mini roundabout, give way lines and pedestrian crossing down the road at the Lake Street roadworks.

I understand not wishing to paint upon a road surface because of gritting residue.

Answer: cleanse the road surface with water. There has been a fair bit of water falling from the sky recently. I believe it was the wet stuff falling on my head during said period.

Their claim that too much rain also made it impossible to paint road markings is equally ludicrous when one realises it also failed to stop road marking at the Lake Street road works...

Therefore I am left wondering if it is simply shoddy planning at Central Beds Council . If one of the nice planners at Central Beds Council would like to visit Leighton Buzzard for a morning they would be witness to many near collisions between vehicles and pedestrians due to confusion. They also might like to ensure a suitably trained first aider attends so that they can leap into action should the outrageous state of affairs lead to the unthinkable.

I listened to an individual state that the sacking of those responsible might help focus the thought processes of those who replace them.

On a lighter note, it is good to see that Corinthian Youth Football Club have received much support since some lowlife burnt down the team’s cabin. Said low life won’t have managed not to boast. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone shopped them? Then they could be sentenced to community work painting much-needed road markings...
