A Leighton man has been prosecuted for making a noise nuisance to his neighbours by playing his stereo and TV too loud.
David Kimber, of Richmond Road, pleaded guilty to breaching a noise abatement notice at Luton Magistrates Court on April 8. He accepted that there were complaints from neighbours about noise and apologised for the nuisance caused by his stereo and television.
He was ordered to pay a fine of £110, costs of £242 as well as a victim surcharge. The court also granted the Central Beds Council’s application to destroy his stereo and TV that had been previously seized.
A man from Houghton Regis was also prosecuted for playing loud music.
Councillor Brian Spurr, Executive Member for Sustainable Communities, Services, said: “Taking people to court is a last resort for us but it was necessary in these cases as there has been persistent offending for some months.
Firstly we try to educate the individuals but if that doesn’t work we issue a noise abatement notice. This is a legal document which requests that they stop the nuisance they are causing. If the notice is breached and the noise continues, a warrant is obtained and seizure of the equipment and prosecution will follow.
“It shows that we take a tough line about environmental crime, whether it is noise, fly tipping or littering. We’re striving to ensure Central Bedfordshire continues to be a great place to live and work for our residents and this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
