Nominations have opened for a competition that aims to showcase the best village pubs in Aylesbury Vale.
Hundreds of punters from pubs across the district are invited to nominate their local for the Aylesbury Vale Village Pub of the Year awards.
The annual awards – this year sponsored by Dayla – were first launched by Aylesbury Vale District Council in 1997 to celebrate what makes a village pub a winner at a time when thousands of locals have closed across the country.
The Unicorn in Cublington was crowned the overall winner last year. Manager Tim Harwood said: “We were ecstatic to have been awarded the Best Village Pub award 2012/2013.
“It really is great to receive recognition for the commitment and many hours of hard work that the team as a whole contribute to the successful running of the business.
“Winning the award has been a real boost to the business, which continues to grow and develop. These are really exciting times at The Unicorn.”
Commenting on the awards, Councillor David Thompson, said: “The awards give village pubs a fantastic opportunity to gain recognition for the excellent contribution they make towards the overall development of our rural communities.
