A six-year-old got a real sugar rush when he made money from not eating sweets.
Harry Laughton, pictured, has raised nearly £500 for the charity Malaria No More UK after abstaining from sweets and chocolate for two weeks in the build up to Easter.
The youngster, of Main Road, Drayton Parslow, was inspired to raise funds for the charity after hearing of the tireless work of Leighton’s Jo Yirrell, whose own son Harry Yirrell, died of malaria aged 20.
Jo is a special ambassador for the charity Malaria No More UK and, as reported in the LBO last month, was also the inspiration behind Richard Curtis’s Comic Relief BBC film, Mary and Martha. Harry Yirrell was a close friend of six-year-old Harry’s mum, Alica, and wanted to do something to help.
Alicia said: “Harry was devasted when I told him that a child dies every minute from this preventable disease and he wanted to do his bit.”
Money that the Drayton Parslow First School student makes will help support Malaria No More UK’s vital work to save lives through malaria prevention, treatment and education programmes in Africa.
