For their last concert of the present season Leighton Buzzard Music welcome Wales’ leading chamber ensemble, the Mavron String Quartet to the town’s theatre on April 13.
Led by violininst Christiana Mavron, the quartet will feature a work by the Welsh composer Rhian Samuel called Threaded Light which the quartet has recently commissioned.
They will also perform the Quartet No 2 by Philip Glass, one of the senior American composers of the present day.
These two exciting modern works will be framed by two classical masterpieces - Haydn’s Quartet in B minor, Op 33 No 1 and Schubert’s impassioned Death And The Maiden Quartet in D minor, so called because its slow movement, is a set of variations on Schubert’s famous song of that name.
