Force 9 ‘disappointed’ over rejection

Developers had the wind knocked out of them when it was announced they had lost their fight to build a renewable energy farm near Stoke Hammond.

But it could be on the cards for Force 9 Energy to appeal against the rejection of plans to build a four-turbine wind farm at Dorcas Lane.

David Butterworth, of Force 9 Energy said: “We are disappointed by the committee’s decision, and will look carefully at the reasons for this decision before deciding what to do next.

“This is a missed opportunity for the district: wind speeds recorded at Dorcas Lane show that the site is well-placed for the production of electricity, enough to supply the equivalent of 4,928 to 5,766 homes in the Vale of Aylesbury every year.

“With oil and gas prices so unpredictable, it is vital to have a dependable and sustainable supply of energy produced here in the UK, the windiest country in Europe. Wind power is a proven source of clean, renewable energy, and cheaper in the long run as the cost of generation continues to fall.”

Force 9 also claim that the neighbouring parishes attended their public exhibition in July 2011 and a feedback form revealed 55.07% were either ‘supportive’ or ‘very supportive’ of renewable energy, and 43.47% ‘supportive’ or ‘very supportive’ of wind power.

They also say that Aylesbury Vale District Council received objections from less than 20% of local households.

Friends of the Earth campaigner Victoria Harvey reacted strongly to rejection and claimed the vote was determined by political agenda, as the Lib Dems voted for, but it was turned down by the Conservatives.

She said: “To us, it shows that the Lib Dems are concerned about our environment and about renewable energy and not depending foreign imported gas. Whereas Conservatives are just concerned about short-term political gain over the environment. We believe this will go to appeal and just cost AVDC money.”
