Acting Leighton Town FC chairman Iain McGregor is calling on those interested in helping the club to come forward as individuals and make a case to the executive committee.

He’s also determined to lift the feeling of doom and gloom that is hanging over Bell Close, insisting that the club’s financial concerns are not as bad as some fear.

Speaking before an open meeting on Monday evening, McGregor – who returned to the club as chairman after Richard Graham resigned – reiterated his intention to step aside in June and make way for someone else to take over.

“We have got the biggest opportunity now,” he said.

“We have got to do it the right way. Whoever does get involved must be willing to take responsibility for every aspect of the club, including the finances.

“My main objective is to get this club playing at the highest level we can. It will be good to get new support. The club is not going down the swanny. I want people to channel their efforts into helping. I know there are a lot of good people out there.”

Meanwhile McGregor says he is optimistic about the new link with MK Dons, despite the League One club offering people in the area half price tickets to a game on the same day that Town play at home.

McGregor will welcome Pete Winkelman and Karl Robinson to Bell Close on March 21 in the build-up to Dons’ Leighton-Linslade Big Day on Monday, April 1.
