LEARNING to play musical instruments in Leighton has just won the support of the town council after it recommended allocation of £5000 towards a vital resource.

Leighton Buzzard Music Centre has been saved on a number of occasions and after establishing trust status last year looks set to continue under new plans by Central Beds and Leighton Linslade councils.

At the meeting of the policy and finance committee a request from the music centre for funding support via the creation of a Music Centre Partnership between the two councils and the music centre supporters trust was given the thumbs up in principle pending further discussions with Central Beds. The partnership may also rest on whether Central Beds achieves Music Hub status.

The town council was asked to contribute £5000 towards running costs in 2012-2013 which was recommended.

The committee said it recognised the valuable contribution made by the Music Centre to the local community, providing an opportunity for both children and adults to have music tuition and to benefit from ensemble playing.
