Richard Graham has resigned as chairman of Leighton Town Football Club.

Graham decided to step down on Thursday, citing personal and very private reasons. He was approaching two years in charge of the Bell Close club and would have needed to be re-elected again this summer.

His departure means that former chairman Iain McGregor will now return to the club as an ‘interim chairman’ until the Annual General Meeting in the summer, by which time he says he will step aside and make way for someone else to take over the running of the cash-strapped club.

A statement from the club to this newspaper said: “Leighton Town have announced that chairman Richard Graham resigned on Thursday 28th February for personal and very private reasons.

“The club would like to thank Richard for his efforts over the last two seasons.

“The executive committee have invited former chairman Iain McGregor to act as the club’s interim chairman and he has accepted the position with immediate effect.

“He has arranged an open meeting for anyone interested in the future of the club in the function hall on Monday 11th March at 8pm.”
