On Sunday, March 3, the Linsdale Singers are delighted to be returning to St Barnabas for another ‘Concert and Cakes’ afternoon recital.

This is two years after the Singers trialled a short Sunday afternoon recital followed by tea and cakes which proved successful.

The recital will commence at 4pm and will last about an hour. Afterwards, tea and cakes in the Community Hall will be available to both audience and choir, enabling everyone to mix and chat in the pleasant surroundings.

The recital will consist of unaccompanied British choral music through the centuries, starting with music by Tallis from the 15th century and ending with music from the 20th century by popular composers John Rutter and Bob Chilcott.

Richard Watts, organist at St Barnabas, will accompany his wife, soprano Judith, in a short musical interlude. Judith is no stranger to the Linsdale Singers and has been their soloist on a number of occasions. The choir is delighted that Richard and Judith have agreed to join them.

Following the refreshments, for those who wish to stay and listen, the choir will then be singing choral evensong.

Richard will also be playing the organ for the Singers and Judith will be singing the solo in the beautiful setting of the Magnificat in G by Stanford. The service will last about 45 minutes.

Entry to the recital and tea is £5 at the door on the afternoon, everyone will be most welcome. All proceeds from the recital will be given to the church’s hall restoration fund. Attendance at choral evensong is of course free.
