But he won’t be alone. Joining ‘little’ Jimmy will be his two brothers, Merrill and Jay, as they travel the country to perform with an all star cast. Known as the long-haired lover from Liverpool, Jimmy spoke to the Leighton Buzzard Observer about the future, family and forgetting your troubles. He said: “My brothers are celebrating 54 years in showbusiness and I’ve been going for 47, so they keep reminding me I’m the rookie. “We worked together for so many years that we have learned to agree to disagree and we’re friends, so that is pretty lucky. It’s wonderful sharing these experiences together. They are great guys. One cool thing about my brothers is that they are really humble, but they have achieved so much. They have sold 100 million records and even had a couple of good ones! “They are just really good examples for me. I still look up to them even now. We all have our flaws and our rows like every family, but the truth is, Merrill, Jay and I still do over 100 shows a year together, so you wouldn’t do that if you didn’t enjoy it. You can’t fake it for that many years. “It’s also going to be fun for people who follow the Osmonds for so many years, to see them do something they’ve never seen them do. I mean I’ve been in musical theatre, but they’ve really never done that. “I don’t know what our parents did, but they did something right.” So the three musketeers will be joining Gareth Gates, Louisa Lytton, Andy Abraham, Chico and Shane Richie Junior to play over 50 dates. Jimmy added: “We’re thrilled. There is nothing like a live show. People don’t come to a show just for you, they come for an experience in their lives. “I have never worked with these people, but my brothers always seem to bring out the best in everyone so I hope that them settting that pace will allow us all to get along and to make it the experience that it deserves to be. “It is fun to have that mind set that knowing we are there facilitating these people’s memories. It’s a real fun thing to forget your troubles for two hours and experience an easier time.” And this certainly won’t be the last we hear from Jimmy as he looks to the future to accomplish even more. “I haven’t nearly done what I would like to do, so I don’t know what the future holds for me. I am really grateful for the offers I get to be in these plays and the crazy reality shows to add colour to my life.” Back in 2005, Jimmy appeared in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here where he finished forth place after sleeping in a hammock surrounded by jungle critters. “That was my first reality show, so that is always my favourite, but the one that really shocked me was Popstar to Operastar. I have performed my whole life, but to perform and to be challenged at what you do to train totally differently was really tough. “What makes me really mad is that now I have come away from it, I did well but I mean it really helped me and now I get it, so I wish I could go on the show now and do it all over again because I’d knock it out of the park. “The truth is it is all about experience. There are a lot better singers than Jimmy Osmond, but at least I come back and I try and hopefully I have a good attitude about it. “You learn something new about yourself with each new challenge, but more importantly you focus on things that are bigger than you, to be part of a team. When we do these reality shows some people really fight for the attention, but you’re still part of a team of entertaining people and I think if you don’t lose that perspective then you enjoy the ride so much more. “There might be someone who can do something better than you, but you are unique at what you do because you add colour and entertainment. The thing with these reality shows is not what you can get out of it, but what can I add to it? “And I hope that’s why a lot of people have asked me to do these things because I try not to be a camera hog and I like to celebrate what other people have accomplished along the way and I think an audience appreciates that and enjoys that.” Boogie Nights is coming to Milton Keynes Theatre on February 26 and 27.
