A Leighton Buzzard man who has served for 40 years in the police service has received an OBE.
Richard Johnson, head of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Scientific Services, received the award in the New Year’s Honours List.
Mr Johnson joined the Met Police as a trainee fingerprint officer in June 1972, but began serving as head of the department in Bedfordshire in 2003.
It was six years later that the MK Dons fan was given the opportunity to run the Beds and Herts joint unit which he has been doing ever since.
