A parking scheme to stop train passengers from leaving their vehicles outside Linslade homes is to be introduced in early spring - and it should please just about everyone except the commuters.
An in-depth investigation into the problems and issues affecting residents on streets around the station has revealed that different streets have different problems - so the answer that Central Beds Council has come up with is to introduce a variety of measures tailored to individual locations.
It is expected that Leighton-Linslade Town Council will fund part of the new initiative with the district authority stumping up for new yellow lines.
CBC has come up with the raft of measures after carrying out the latest in a series of residents’ surveys. Neighbours in Orchard Drive, Grange Close and Woodside Way, the worst areas affected by commuter parking, support single yellow lines and that is what they will receive.
Just over half the residents polled in Wing Road, Mentmore Road, St Mary’s Way, Cherry Tree Walk and Beech Grove wanted parking permits and these will be introduced. Only a third of Hawthorn Close opted for permits but they will be included in the scheme.
Faulkner’s Way neighbours were split with a third wanting permits, a third favoured a yellow line and 24 per cent wanted no action while Harcourt Close are strongly in favour of single yellow lines.
The council has recommended that permits be pursued in Faulkner’s Way and that single yellow lines be laid in Harcourt Close.
In Southcott Village and Chelsea Green area 41 per cent said commuter parking was an issue but 54 per cent wanted no action taken.
The 15 respondents of Southcott Village are 100% supportive of a residents’ permit scheme but most residents (71%) of Epsom Close expressed a preference for single yellow lines. A large proportion of residents of Chelsea Green (71%), Ascot Drive (69%) and Village Court (67%) said leave it as it is.
In Southcott Village a residents’ permit parking scheme from its junction with Chelsea Green to the end will operate. In the remainder of Southcott Village it is recommend that the existing single yellow lines remain. In Epsom Close it is recommended that the single yellow lines be extended further into the road. In Chelsea Green, Ascot Drive and Village Court no further action be taken.
*The town council has included a park and stride scheme in its ambitious Big Plan II blueprint for the town’s future development although no details have been developed.
