What could have been a potentially fatal flat blaze had a happy ending when a Leighton firefighter managed to rescue a cat from the flames.
The fire broke out in the front room of a flat above the shops on Clarence Road, Leighton, on
Thursday at 9.30pm.Three fire engines arrived on the scene to find the female occupant of the flat safely outside, but her frightened cat was hidden in the rear bedroom.
There was extensive smoke damage to the property, but the fire was successfully put out and the pet is safe and well.
