Flight Lieutenant Steve Hawkins from Stanbridge endured the cold for an impressive seven hours sat in a bath of beans in Tesco’s main branch in Vimy Road, Linslade to raise money for charity.
The man is a glutton for punishment as last month he underwent a gruelling body wax session - but it’s all in a good cause. Steve is raising cash so that he can enter next year’s London Marathon to raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support and, after only eight weeks of fund-raising, has already reached his target of £2000 to run in the marathon.
Said Steve: “This event really seemed to catch the imagination of the customers and thanks to their generosity I raised an amazing £836.51. I would also like to thank Wickes of Aylesbury for providing the bath and Bookers of Dunstable for providing the beans.
“However, my main thanks goes to the staff at Tesco and my RAF colleagues from Stanbridge who provided me with hot drinks and food as well as the moral support that was required to last that long in what was the coldest day of the year so far’.
Since the ordeal Steve has also organised a pub quiz and a coffee morning at work and, even though his target has been reached, he is aiming to continue to raise as much as he can before the marathon.
